Fury vs Wilder I

The first meeting of the Brit and American took place at Staples Center, LA on December 1st, 2018 after conversations between them had take place for over 8 months.  A number of things stood in the way of Fury VS Wilder I such as Anthony Joshua VS Alexander Povetkin in September, 2018. In November the weigh in took place outside of Los Angeles Convention Center with Fury weighing in at 256.5lbs and Wilder at 214lbs

A crowd of over 17,000 saw these two heavyweights go at it live with a further 350,000 PPV buys from Showtime in America. Despite all of the hype behind this fight it finished on points with a draw, the scoring was:

  • Alejandro Rochin, 115-111 for Wilder.
  • Robert Tapper, 114-112 for Fury.
  • Phil Edwards, 113-113.

Fury vs Wilder II

The unsatisfactory result of their first meeting led to a rematch organised within a year of the fight to take place in February 2020. This all went as planned with both fighters coming back heavier than before as Fury weighed in at 273lbs and Wilder at his career-heaviest 231lbs.

Fury VS Wilder II took place in the MGM Grand Garden Arena with approximately 850 million traditional PPV purchases in America alone. The fight ended in the 7th round by technical knockout when Deontay Wilders coach Mark Breland threw in the towel. This cost Wilder his WBC Heavyweight title about which he insists was down to ‘muscle relaxant’ spiked water and several other reasons to this day.
